Dr Martin and Rosette Nkundeki both had inspiration from watching how microfinance impacted their parents. Martin and Rosette wrote the vision of creating a bank on their prayer list while dating at the University in early 2003. ‘’Our prayer list included things like a cooker, fridge, the wedding budget, a home, a church assignment, a bridal and decorations business, children, a bank, and real estate, we had nothing but faith in God’s great plans for humanity’’
Years later, as a doctor passionate about healthcare in poorer communities, Dr. Martin encountered families trapped in the cycle of poverty and disease; “health education was great, it brought significant changes, but poverty was the prison gate’’ says Dr. Martin. ‘’One day in 2008, we pulled some cash and loaned a small group of women who earned a tiny wage by splitting rocks at a stone quarry. Loaning about 30$ each; I saw a woman move from renting a hammer to buying her own, I saw another hire out her own patch of rock and employ others, some just disappeared with the capital, and others started out other endeavors, one started a vegetable stall but suffered one long hospital stay nursing her ill child and she lost her business’’. All this re-ignited Dr. Martin’s passion for enterprise as a tool in community transformation, in 2008 he enrolled for an MBA which transformed these micro-finance experiments into Integrity Fund Ltd.
We have experienced entrepreneurs grow with enabling capital and seen others crash painfully, we have made profits and donated to vulnerable children and mission work, and also made significant losses and learned hard lessons, we are walking a journey of discovery and growth along with the staff and clients. In 2018 we secured street-front office space and hired 3 staff, the next year 2019 we obtained a license as a non-deposit taking Microfinance institution, regulated by Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority. The designated office, staff, and a growing list of inspiring clients signing up to our ‘’financial journey’’ model are glimpses of hope, the early marks of a unique finance institution rising out of Uganda.
Our dream is to nurture emerging entrepreneurs through enabling capital. We want to increase the number of sustainably run small businesses in Uganda, we want to multiply the number of entrepreneurs breaking out of subsistence enterprise into transgenerational, growing models. We serve all persons regardless of religion and tribe, requiring a long-term perspective to business with the ultimate aspiration to hear ‘’Well done, good and faithful servant’’ when each entrepreneur meets the Creator in eternity.
